It's time for Indonesian Ports to Transform
The Wednesday edition of the daily Kompas (29/11/2023) contained news entitled "Hong Kong, the Leg of the Dragon with Ambition to Grip Half the World". The article, which likens its position at the feet of China's "Dragon", cites Hong Kong's hope and determination to strengthen its position as an economic node in the Asia Pacific region.
Hong Kong is reportedly seeking to strengthen its maritime industry through partnerships and alliances with other port cities in southern China. They are part of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) economic region which consists of Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong.
Meanwhile, Indonesia is an archipelagic and maritime country with over 17,000 islands and 2,439 ports. Thousands of ports spread throughout the nation consist of ports managed by state-owned enterprises, technical implementation units (Ministry of Transportation), special terminals, and private-purpose terminals (TUKS).
