Compete and Innovate with the Observe-Imitate-Modify Strategy
Who is not familiar with the Excel software? This application, which is part of Microsoft Office with calculation and graphing features, is one of the most popular computer programs.
In fact, Excel is now the most widely used spreadsheet program in the world with users estimated at 1.1 billion to 1.5 billion people since version 5.0 was published in 1993. Only a few products have a penetration rate of 100 percent . Microsoft Excel is one of them, used by 99.99 percent of global business people. In short, Excel is everywhere.
In fact, Excel was not the first spreadsheet application, but it was the most successful and has dominated the market for more than 34 years. The first electronic spreadsheet software was VisiCalc, introduced by Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston in 1979 for the Apple II computer.
This application revolutionized business and personal computing by enabling users to perform calculations and organize data more efficiently. Ironically, VisiCalc was known only as a pioneer but never a dominant player, and Lotus 1-2-3 quickly became the spreadsheet software that dominated the market in the early 1980s. Lotus 1-2-3 combines spreadsheet functionality with charting and database capabilities, making it a powerful tool for business users.
